oh hi! it’s me, Neil. I’ll try to keep the inbox invasion brief. Every month, I’ll announce the next Club Blob Tub lineup and likely blather on about some other stuff I’m up to or interested in. I’m really not feeling all the platforms. I’ve been tryna reduce the reliance on IG and I’m annoyed to be joining yet another… Argh, and so what. Let’s move on.

Lemme introduce you to Club Blob Tub a new monthly series at our local punk bar The Sardine. Programming-wise, I’m focusing on the blobular, the harder to define edges of music, sound and performance. Sure I could say “experimental” but what is that? Likely boring and too self-serious. I’ve been using the shorthand of saying ‘anti-genre’ to describe this because I’m against obsessive self-categorization. Specific idioms will always be present and pop up, but why throw up all these fences before you can let the weeds and pests run wild? Aesthetically and socially, I want to blob us up in one gross tub. Of course, everyone’s invited, as long as they’re open and ready for surprises and messy corners.

Also, all too often I’m driving all over LA to see art and performances that I’m interested in - in neighborhoods like downtown, chinatown or hollywood or around the northeast, like highland park. My goal is to meet more of my ‘Pedro, LB and Torrance neighbors… create a lil local zone for us southbay weirdos. I’ve met a few of you and I know we exist, so let’s see what happens. Anyway, please tell all your friends and come out. This first lineup is a doozy:

a few more thoughts, by way of a update:
Uh, So I live in what is currently called California, in the southernmost gerrymandered spear of the city of los angeles, the port zone of San Pedro, home of the minutemen. My partner Fafnir and I have been here over a year now and after considerable adjustment, we kinda love it.

It’s a lil too early to do the usual reflecting on the previous year, but I’ll just say that this one has been dense, with lots of interesting developments, touring, collaborations, practices and projects.

Tooty continued, mutated and is now on hiatus, but I joined LAWWSS (aka Los Angeles WoodWind SkillShare) and that is a blast.

Carbus did a monthlong residency at uncool and then a small tour around northern Italy, Switzerland and France, culminating in this set from our gig at Sonic Protest in Paris, recently posted here.

Inadvertently joined a new band called Muscle Beach. I think we may have played like six shows, did a live on-air session at Dublab and recorded with our buddy Meanstreetz. A release of some sort will be forthcoming once I get to mixing down our day of sweaty mayhem.

I’ve also been playing a lot of drums, like as much as possible. With a lot of different people and I hope to be doing this more. One such collaboration this summer was playing with singer/songwriter/lovely-weirdo Barbara Manning. I joined her to do a set of 10 of her songs in early August and Saccharine Trust guitar maestro Joe Baiza joined us on a couple songs too. There was some cool footage of the performance on youtubes, but alas, the archival instability of platforms continues to fail us.

In addition to the EU and UK touring I did last winter/early spring, Bromp Treb became a streetwear brand. A new T-shirt design for 2024 is forthcoming. I will be performing at George Chen’s Birthday and Zum Audio Anniversary Spectacular at the Smell on December 3. Please come out to that one, it should be a hoot.

Churners Monthly is currently on hiatus, but I did a fun guest slot over at Dublab.
As did Wok the Rock, sharing oodles of glorious yesnowave jammers from the asian archapelagos and beyond.

I think that’s enough for now, Besos! -n
